This nostalgic English countryside wedding inspiration shoot was designed to feel cinematic, intimate, and timeless — inspired by romantic films and the quiet beauty of rural England. I had the pleasure of photographing this editorial, which was recently featured on 100 Layer Cake, and I’m excited to share more behind the scenes, creative intention, and imagery here on the blog.

Rather than creating a picture-perfect or overly styled editorial, the intention behind this shoot was to embrace nostalgia and realism. The English countryside offered the perfect backdrop — soft rolling landscapes, muted tones, and an understated elegance that feels both timeless and cinematic.
The goal was to create imagery that feels lived-in and emotional, as if pulled from a still frame of a film. Every element was designed to feel effortless and organic, allowing moments to unfold naturally instead of feeling posed or curated.
The countryside setting played a central role in shaping the mood of this editorial. Overcast skies provided soft, diffused light that complemented the romantic tones of the landscape, while the surrounding textures — aged stone, greenery, and open fields — added depth and visual interest.
This type of environment allows space for quiet moments, movement, and connection. It’s the kind of setting that encourages couples to slow down, be present, and simply exist together — which is where the most meaningful imagery is created.
This shoot was photographed using a hybrid workflow, blending digital photography with medium format film and Super 8. Each medium brought something unique to the story:
This approach mirrors how I photograph real wedding days, seamlessly blending formats to tell a story that feels layered, intentional, and emotionally rich.
Cinematic, editorial wedding photography is especially powerful for couples who value experience over perfection. This style allows space for emotion, atmosphere, and authenticity — whether that’s an intimate countryside wedding, a destination celebration abroad, or a quiet elopement somewhere meaningful.
By focusing on storytelling rather than trends, the imagery remains timeless. It’s about how the day felt, not just how it looked — and that’s what allows photographs and films to age beautifully over time.
Although I’m based in Ontario, my work is inspired by landscapes, architecture, and stories from around the world. I photograph luxury, editorial, intimate, and destination weddings and couples internationally, and I’m always drawn to locations that feel soulful, cinematic, and layered with history.
This editorial reflects the type of work I love most — intentional, emotive, and rooted in storytelling. Whether photographing a wedding in the English countryside, a destination celebration abroad, or an intimate gathering closer to home, the approach remains the same: capturing moments honestly and artfully.
